I'd recommend getting your hands on the most current edition of the Brady Book (the book used for EMT-B training). I'm not sure which is the most current version, however, as my google results show different kinds. Perhaps hit up your nearest EMT crew at the nearest fire department and see if they know. Also, BPT have life be a bit rough. Whiskey Land at JBSA is no picnic.

After being trained in the mid '70s using TM-8-230, the Brady Book to me, was no more than the same training pamphlet MEDCOM put together for the Combat Lifesaver class's I'd instructed in the early '80s in USAEUR... Had a corpsman give me his 'Independent Hospital Corpsman'... Now that is where MEDCOM should have gone as far as enlisted medical training is concerned.

As far as "best" preparation goes, taking a college class for the NREMT would go a long way.

You would have to re-learn a few things in your AIT. Laws and regulations change for you when you're behaving as a Soldier (68W) and when you're behaving as a regular EMT (Civilian). But that's a small price.to pay for gaining and knowledge, experience, and college credit.

Stay awake. Study. Practice the basics. Repeat.

Be prepared to study and take the EMT phase serious as the NREMT exam fails a lot of people. In whiskey phase (after EMT verification is over) listen to your instructors and have some fun with it.

If you have your NREMT prior to signing your contract you can skip the EMT portion and get an automatic promotion. Talk to your recruiter about it. Just make sure it is the national version and not a specific state version
