I recently relocated from KY to TX (JBSA- FT. Sam) and have been making the commute to and from drill. The only reason I want to stay with the unit in KY is they're up for a rotation at NTC June 2016. At the unit, I am not getting much experience and will have a senior medic for the first time in nearly a year. (I got to the unit June 2015 and have not had an active med NCO.) If I transfer to TXARNG, I would be transferring back to KYARNG around Oct 2017. Is it worth it?? Any suggestions for a unit I would actually utilize my MOS and gain experience?

So far as the unit piece I do not have any advice. The experience at NTC will be good for you as a medic. I was Active Army and do not understand the Guard. I would contact the TXARNG and see what they have to offer in terms of professional development and weigh your options between the two.

Thank you, SSG. I want to stay with my unit in KY for the NTC experiences, obviously, but if I am able to get similar experience and not be a shi!tbag for transferring to a unit for a year, I would be all about it.

Good information. I moved in January from Louisiana and have been driving back and forth until I find a unit in Texas. I am a 92A (Automated Logistical Specialists) E-5. I am around the Dallas area so anything within 50 miles would be lovely. If anyone can help out let me know because that drive is tough.
