I have just re-enlisted and am attending EOD phase one in January and I would like to get some on the job training that a few officers here have told me would be good. I am trying to figure out or find an example on how to write up the 4187. I have tried contacting the EOD unit here a couple times but haven't been able to get in contact with anyone yet and was just going to see if any of you have the answers. Any help would be appreciated.

Why would you need a 4187? If your current commander and NCOs are good with you going for cross training before school, just go to the EOD section and ask them if you can learn what you can from them.

My current unit wanted it on paper since ill be reporting to a different unit but same division. I had someone say that a Memo signed by my commander would be good enough just so its in writing who I report to but I will still be on my current units books.

I can send you an example, but you need to get in contact with the gaining unit to complete the 4187. Try and reach out to either the EOD recruiter or the officer who did your interview.

Can you PM me your .mil

On the job training used to be how you picked up a non-technical MOS by working in it rather than attending the course. That went away over 20 years ago.
What you want to do is referred to as cross-training.
First you need to contact that EOD unit to determine if they have time for you, and how much.
If they say yes, you go to your command.
If EOD has time to take you on 5 days a week, you ask your command to attach you to the EOD unit, and the EOD unit has you for admin, training and pay for the duration of attachment.
If it is a few days a week or month, you work out the schedule with your leadership to report to EOD those days, and you check in with your first line leader at the beginning and end of each of those days.
If it doesn't work out, you'll be fine, the EOD course will teach you everything you need to know for the job.

I appreciate the info SGM! I contacted the 718th here on base they said I would be good to go full time with them if my commander approves. I've been on a guard mission as BMM for USFK so I haven't been with my actual company for ever a year so they said no reason for me to come back now since I will be leaving in a couple months any way and I am reclassing so the training would be more beneficial. I get that school will teach me more then enough I would just like to get the feel for the MOS and getting alittle head start on learning wouldnt hurt.
