It's that time of year I have to review my ORB data, and I literally just finished CCC for LG (1059 hasn't even iPerm'd yet). Anyway, I noticed a data column going through my ORB portal review and my current duty positions says "Joint Time - YES." What does that mean for me as a FY20 CPT with a MDR of 2032. Does it mean anything for me, or is that a Field Grade feather? I'm in an O3 billet, so I can't sit here through MAJ.

I am Air Force, but am in a joint assignment since 2015 out at NS Norfolk at the USTRANSCOM/JECC. My understanding is joint is looked fairly similar for you guys as it does us. For an O3, not looked at much. Its good at the O4 level as long as you are on track for a command at O5. It has some impact on selection for O6 and is desired if you are "THAT" guy to go GO. For me it does not mean squat, I just put on O5 and am at the end of the road. Short of World War III, O5 will be my terminal rank, I am fine with that, that was my one and only goal as a reservist, in terms of broad career progression.

I haven't see it. I just looked at my ORB and I don't see anything that references a joint assignment. In the Regular Army is not something that really matters as a Captain. It isn't really something that you need to promote. I would look at your Branch's career path. If it isn't on that I wouldn't worry about. Staff time is still staff time whether is a regular staff vs a joint staff.

I am finding articles and such discussing the 3A/3L pathway, and to your point, I found an article that says statistically 3A/3L while designated to promote faster by "law" do not promote faster than their peers with equally strong board packets. To me, that reads that 3A/3L officers are by their nature already strong promotion material.
So just be me, develop and prepare and 3A/3L wont matter anyway.
As a reservist, I do think it will influence how my yearly Annual Training exercises pan out based on the nature of the unit I am assigned to based on 3L ASI.
