What are some available NG units in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for a 68W?

Hey y'all. I'm a 68w (combat medic) with the Maryland national guard currently, and looking to move to North Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth area). Very excited to make the move, my CoC is already on board with my pending IST. Just waiting on the dust to settle with some legal stuff I'm working on back home, and then I'm good to start the process.

My question is about units in the new area. I'd like to learn more about the available units nearby if anybody has any insight there. Every time I've ever gone to a unit in my career I was always surprised by the overall vibe I came into and I love my current unit, and I'm just wondering what to look forward to here. Thanks guys!

The Texas ARNG interstate transfer office number is [login to see] . Towards the east are units of 3BN - 144INF, in Grand Prairie is Troop C, 1SQ - 124CAV, there is the 156 BEB in the area, and the 949 BSB. All of these are part of the 56 IBCT, 36ID. You've also got most of the 1BN (Abn) - 143INF in Fort Worth, which is part of the 173 ABN BDE, based in Vicenza, Italy.

If you're interested in the ANG side, the 136th Airlift Wing is in Fort Worth. The 136th Medical Group is a subordinate unit, and a 68W would likely be able to transfer into AFSC 4N0X1, Aerospace Medical Services. The 136AW recruiter number is [login to see] .

Thank you sir, that's a lot of good info :) when I spoke to local recruiters they directed me back at my CoC for initiating IST. The goal wouldn't ever be to jump the chain, just to get some info from people who know the units. Much appreciated

SPC (Join to see) - just to be clear, all the people at the phone numbers listed can do is tell you what vacancies exist, etc. You still have to work through your COC, but it appears that you're doing that already. Good luck.

SPC (Join to see) - The person on your end that will clear you for transfer and forward your request to your State IST is your Readiness NCO. He will insure that you have no flags and are eligible to Transfer. He will then forward your packet to the State IST. Then your State's IST contacts the gaining State's IST about available slots. Once they find you a home, the losing unit should give you counseling on leaving and that State IST should insure that you have your NGB22 and NGB23. Then you swear in at the new State.
This really isn't recruiter business, but Capt Prickett is correct that it doesn't hurt to talk to the IST in the gaining state to get a feel for what is available. If you have problems with the Transfer, there should be an IST Help Desk at your State Headquarters that will help you deal with any issues.
