Putting in a packet to go to OCS. I am currently a reservist and would like to go to active duty as an officer. Is that possible upon graduation of OCS regardless of my reserve orders?

As far as I understand, there is no option to do that. You can commission in the USAR and then apply to go active, or you can enlist AD and then apply to OCS. Reading what other officers on here have done, it sounds like it's easier to do the second one

As the others stated, there is no direct route, but you do have options.

If you're selected, you can commission and remain on TPU status or you can work with a recruiter and your unit and try and get a conditional release to go active duty. This typically takes a while and I have seen it approved and denied, depending on the needs of the Army and the Command you're currently in.

I would recommend you apply for AGR after you commission. I believe there are currently two boards a year and you can just keep reapplying if you're not selected. Again, needs of the Army change frequently, so just because you're not selected this board, it doesn't mean you won't be selected next time.

SFC (Join to see) Thanks SSG. AGR works too as long as I get the same active duty benefits. What is a TPU status?

SPC Onel Cruz - TPU is the acronym used for traditional reservist. Troop program unit.

AGR benefits are the same as RA. AGR mission is to support the Army Reserve.

SFC (Join to see) Thanks SSG, super helpful. You know if whether or not I am required to keep the same MOS series I was in while enlisted or I can change it upon graduation ?

I'm not super familiar with OCS and branch assignment, so that would be something you need to ask an O or a 79V special missions NCO.

You can also go AGR as enlisted, but if you were to submit a commission or warrant packet and get selected, you'd have to leave AGR to complete school and then reapply for AGR.

You have to be accepted on Active duty prior to your moving over regardless of what rank. All commissions from OCS are federal
