I'm up for a rotation to Poland and was looking for any feed back on what to expect. What are items to bring, things to study for before going, things to get my joes spun up on and so forth.

I got back from Poland in October. You're going to want to bring or buy as soon as you get there a wifi puck. Typically, overseas service on US phone plans costs alot. You can get a puck cheap if people are leaving, otherwise it'll run between $75-200 depending on what one you get. Plans are reasonable, you can get 100GB of data for like 60 a month (trust me, between movies, internet, etc., you go through it quick). If you have a chance to get off post, you can get 1000TB wifi puck for a few hundred and it'll last you your entire rotation.

Thank you, I'll look into it. We had sapphire and orange in Jordan that worked well.

SSG(P) (Join to see) On a different topic, what's the deal with the beard while in Army Greens? Kind of inappropriate isn't it? Or are you under relaxed grooming (sarc)?

Never been to Poland. However, I have always read history on places I am headed to. Europeans tend to be more focused on history than Americans. Also, take time to get some cultural understanding. Talk about not being the “ugly American “.

By all means follow the Col's advice. Also plan to fo some off duty exploration of the country if its allowable. Take advantage of the opportunities this posting presents you.

The Army used to mandate a two week course in local country language and culture for an overseas PCS move. Not sure if they still do but I had to attend for my PCS to Germany in the 1980's and learn two weeks of how to speak German as well as German cuture.

SPC Erich Guenther - When we went to Jordan we had a brief and had to take the JKO Arabic Course. I'll probably see if there is a junior college out there that offers Polish online to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Have them read up in the culture, customs etc. There should be a cultural liaison that can help your soldiers adjust. If all else fails.... Find the best spots for Hookers, Liquor, Beer And Bacon!!! Never fails to raise morale and bacon is fuckin delicious! Hooah
