I would be very careful putting Government Owned equipment, aside from OCIE of course, in a POV. At least get a memo from your Commander that gives you permission to transport Government equipment in a POV. Those random MP Stops or Traffic Checkpoints it could raise unnecessary questions.

You have to say what you are trying to move. I can use my POV to transport equipment. I bring home my GOV computer all the time. Now, if it's a sensitive item then that's another story. You shouldn't be transporting radios, weapons, or sensitive computers by POV unless you have approval.

Actually, you should have a gov't form inside your laptop authorizing removal and transportation of gov't equipment from the base, and I believe that same form authorizes transportation in your POV or commcial carrier. Military used to be a stickler on these forms and if stopped at the gate, they could get you for removing government material without authorization. We used to be required to have it on hand if questioned, but as more and more received laptops regulation was ignored. I'll have to see if I can find the name of the form we used (DoD form, not Navy)
