Are There too many E5 chucks? Or are they prepping to send a bunch of people through on January 1 because of the promotion changes coming up? Any thoughts?

People get this weird idea that you have to have x amount of promotion points to be successful. Promotions are based on an OML. Your OML for E4 and E5 is your promotion points. If they want 0 promotions this month in that MOS, they raise the points above what anyone has. If they want 50 promotions, they lower the points to whatever the 50th top person has. simple as that. When you are a Senior Enlisted you will see that entire months go by without a single promotion. Sometimes years, if you are in a small MOS.

Because the MOS is currently above strength for E5's. Once a few pick up 6, then points will drop. The promotion changes are for individuals in the ranks of E5 through E8, not E4 (P)

The promotion change started with senior enlisted only. As of January 1 2022 it will encompass all NCO promotions, including promotion to SGT from SPC.
