Looking to reclass to 31E. I’m a e5 switching from the guard back to active. Decided I didn’t want to do the civilian thing anymore. I was just wondering what’s the odds I could pick 31E. I was looking at the prior service business rules and don’t see any 31 series on it. Any input would be useful. Thanks ??

Nobody knows what class seata are available until you are sitting with the MEPS counselor. If you pick 31E you're going to spend most of your Career at Leavenworth with a few years at JBLM, Korea, and Gitmo

SFC (Join to see) - I was curious about it since I know there was a prison there back when I was in Germany in the early 2000's. I knew a few folks that took up residence there while they were going thru Courts Martial. But, that was 20 years ago so it may be closed now.

Tis a shame Presidio of SF closed down. That would have been a great duty station for a 31E

Really I don’t understand the process of reclassing since I’m prior service. Like can I pick whatever job at meps and they see if there’s seats available?

SGT (Join to see) You'll meet with the counselor and they'll tell you what jobs they have class seats for, or if you're even eligible to reclass

31E: As E5 you can say goodbye to weekends, holidays, 9 to 5, and everything related. Correctional and confinement complexes work 24/7. Someone has to watch the inmates. You would not always have to work in a jail, you can be assigned to an MP (31B) unit and work as a Detention and Corrections NCO. But this is mostly for E6s and above. Good stuff: little to no field time. If you have good communication and observation skills, you shouldn't have a problem.
