Currently have end of obligated service of 2009 (yes that's correct 2009). Current contract expires 9/11/23. Working on a doctorate degree and family concerns so had a legitimate reason among others to request IRR.

From the packets I've personally seen get submitted? Shouldn't take more than a month to process, really. But, that all depends on the Chain and how fast they sign and push forward.

Do you already have 20 good years? If so, just wait for your 20 year letter and let the move you to retire reserve. Are you planning on coming back in after awhile?

I plan on dropping to the IRR and not retiring yet. I am currently working on doctorate degree and then moving on a different reserve path with the Navy DCO program.
