So i recently went to school for AIT reclass. My Schools NCO i dont know what is wrong with them but they made the orderly room from each company do their work in other words they are not helping anyone with questions except through the Orderly room, yeah weird right. SO when i had questions they ignore you and hang up the phone, but i went through the orderly room and they tried helping. So i dont know if my Travel Voucher was screwed over or what, it got approved. SO the mileage is 1400 miles but it only says 1400 miles on it which is one way only! but in the voucher it says im going back but no mention of 2400 miles total miles. Im confused as to know if the Army pays for your mileage for AIT school ! I told many NCO's and i heard that they pay you as if your where going on an airplane so an airplane ticket plus whatever you used for gas and lodging with the GTC. What i dont get is does the army pay us soldiers going to AIT reclass??? or only the ones they send to school like ALC, SLC etc. It is a very vague subject i rarely get a straight answer.

DTS is not vague at all, the site includes short pamphlets, instructions, online classes, (about 20 min) and the whole manual to explain authorizations and vouchers for any kind of trip.

For a TDY and return trip, if you opted to drive, you were required to provide a constructed travel worksheet in your voucher, comparing the cost of the GSA contract fare for a round trip flight.
That authorizes you to be reimbursed up to the full cost of the flight, which may be less than actual full mileage.
What exactly did you put in your DTS voucher?

Driving is reimbursed up to the amount of the GSA contract airfare you declined by driving.

First, you messed up by doing a TDY and Return trip, it's a TDY enroute trip. You were supposed to receive a manual DD1610 and file your voucher when arrived at your next duty station.

As SGM (Join to see) pointed out, you are only authorized to be reimbursed for the amount up to the price of the plane ticket. To expand on that a bit, you are only authorized ONE travel day when traveling TDY CONUS. There are exceptions, but this is not it. You're authorized one day of travel, one day of per diem, no hotels. Any travel over one day is your own personal leave. You can drive three thousand miles one way if you want, but you're not going to be paid any more than the price of the plane ticket offered in DTS for that trip. It doesn't matter if it's ALC or AIT, it's still TDY. Not airplane ticket plus food, lodging, and gas - just the amount they would have spent on the airline ticket.

I'm surprised they let you drive. Were you authorized to drive per your orders? If you were on TDY, the 1 Jan 22 rate for Mileage reimbursement is $0.585/mile for car; the PCS (MALT) as of 1 Jan 22 is $0.18/mile. So, if they reimbursed you for 2400 miles under TDY, the amount would be $1,404. For PCS it's $432.
