My unit is based in Kuwait, however I was sent on 60 day TCS orders to Iraq. I have read the regulations and to me it reads that I can wear the patch, since I have been in Iraq for over 30 days, and recieve CZTE and HFP. Please let me know the correct thing to do.

No memo awarding it...don't wear it. Should be able to get that memo easily as long as your substantiating documents are present

Sounds good. Talked to my leadership about it and they said the same thing. Get substantiating documents and get with S1, since I’ve been in Iraq for 2 months to get my OIR ribbon & patch, since I am supporting OIR technically. Thanks for the advice.

A unit wanting to give a memo or not does not change the fact that it is authorized.

SSG (Join to see) the original reg said attached, assigned or augmented. Based on that, I am authorized the 36th ID, 4th ID, 1st CAV and 1st ID. But, without those memos...I'm not authorized to wear them. Authorized or not, if there is no memo, it's hard for a Reservist to wear those patches nowadays

He doesn’t need a memo awarding anything regardless of what his unit command thinks that’s their problem not his! Right is right and none of them trump the regulation period!

In order to wear the CJTF-OIR patch you must be part of the manning for the task force otherwise you would wear your unit path or the patch of the lowest HQ element to which you were attached.

Exactly.
If you were not in a position where you wore the CJTF-OIR patch as your unit patch then probably no. Because most of the CJTF-OIR HQ personnel are based in Kuwait that patch will probably be somewhat rare as a 'combat' patch.

Also I believe only a single day in Iraq is required to be awarded a 'combat' patch. The 30 days is for the OIR campaign medal.

I’ve talked to my leadership about it and since I’ve been supporting OIR for 60 days now I should get the OIR ribbon and possibly the patch as well… I’ll figure it out when I get to de-mob but not wear it yet just in case.

SPC (Join to see) - If you were in country for 1+ days you are entitled to a combat patch. Like I said though unless you were part of CJTF-OIR you will likely wear your unit's patch, or the lowest HQ to which you were attached. I spent my entire deployment in Iraq, had to walk around slick sleeve for 2 months because we couldn't find time to do a ceremony, and ended up with my NG unit patch as 'bookends.' In the end I didn't care though because it is something I wear proudly.

Point is you're entitled to it so get it documented and iPermed. It also sounds like you're entitled to the OIR ribbon so get that documented and put in iPerms as well. I would make sure you get all of your ducks in a row before you de-mob at Hood. Also, make sure to really check your DD-214 when you out process and make sure it is accurate before accepting it. Changing it after the fact is not easy.

Good luck and get home safe.

I wouldn't wear a patch I don't have a memo for. It's not drawn out process like a DA638/award

I bet such memo's are being handed out pretty broadly. So get with your S1 in the area as they probably hand them to you on the way out.

I know folks wearing patches where that probably shouldn't, and I know folks that got shafted out of a patch. You really need the memo.

Because EVEN IF you have a Campaign ribbon/medal and Nato ribbon/medal that doesn't say WHICH PATCH. So if you are walking around with a patch without the corresponding memo you are walking around with a bulls eye on your right arm.
