Is it Possible to be a federal technician in one unit and drill at a Different Unit?

Has anyone heard of someone who drills at one unit, but is a Federal Technician (ART) at a different unit? I'm wondering if it is allowed/possible. I drill in a different city than the one I live in, but there is a Guard base in my city. Are units allowed to hire someone as a technician from a different unit, without forcing them to transfer units? Thank you!

My son SSG Steven Borders is a Federal civilian employee with one unit and drills with another unit at Fairchild AFB.

Yes.
It depends on the position, if the position requires you to drill in that slot they can move you to it but I know several Guard mil techs that changed drilling positions while keeping the sane mil tech job.

It's not QUITE the same, but on my last deployment we had a DAC from the DIA as our HUMINT Analyst, deployed out of the DC area. His weekend job was as a HUMINT collector for the Utah NG. He had to request a new waiver for missing drill every 6 months, but he was able to manage both positions.

SFC, I'm not super spun up on what a DAC is, but it sounds like that person holds a straight civilian position (not contingent on being in the Guard/Reserves) and yes that is indeed not the same. The Miltech/ART program can be weird at times. Being "dual status" I'm wondering if the ONLY requirement is that you have to be in the Guard/Reserves to hold the position, or if you HAVE to be apart of the specific unit you work for on the mil side as well.
