I am very unhappy with my current MOS, It was completely different from what I had imagined.
It is my fault for not doing my do dilly and finding an MOS that I would've enjoyed in the first place.
But, my question is, I have enlisted in the NG, but for a 20K (6 year) contract. I've been in almost 3 years and the contract payment comes in 10k enlisted, 5K at 3rd year, 5k at end of contract. Can I request to reclass at the end of my 3rd year without having to pay back the 10K that I have already served?
Thanks.

The Guard is a little more lenient about reclass before your reenlistment window.
However, if you reclass at 3 years, after receiving a $10K and $5K payment, you will have fulfilled 50% of the bonus requirement, but you would have received 75% of the bonus payments.
Bonuses are prorated, which means if you only served 50% of the requirement, the Army only owed you 50% of the bonus, and they'll want that other 25% back, ($5K) at the full, pre-tax amount.

SPC (Join to see) - You should start with a Guard recruiter.
They can see all the vacancies, and they are probably the only ones who can do a reclass contract.
But they will not be motivated, because they are only rated on the numbers of non-prior service recruits they bring in, so you will have to be persistent, and do some homework like talking to the units you would want to go to.

SGM (Join to see) - I see different people to contact for a reclass, such as S1, Retention NCO, Career counselors, would Recruiters be the best option? Also, how would I see which units has the MOS that I would like to reclass to?
Thanks again for all the information!

SPC (Join to see) - A good BN S1 should be able to use your state's G1 resources to see all vacancies.
A BN Retention NCO also should be able to do what the recruiter can do.
In the Guard, not every BN Retention NCO is the same.
What MOS are you talking about?

SPC (Join to see) - The Retention NCO is the place to start. As SGM McCloud indicated they Battalion S-1 shop has that information, but retention generally isn't their specific job.

You can talk to S1 and Retention NCO but if you are signed into a bonus it definitely complicates things. If the payments are delayed you might get lucky but it depends on a lot of factors. Talk to your chain but you might be stuck till your Re-enlistment window opens up

Thanks for this information. Yea, the main thing that kept me from reclassing sooner was definitely the bonus which felt more of a trap.

SPC (Join to see) It’s not really a trap because that would infer some level of deception. Nobody made you sign on for a bonus. It was offered you and accepted. It’s hard because we many of us sign on between 17-19 and nobody at that age is an ace at eyeballing contracts. But I still wouldn’t call it a trap

SSgt Christophe Murphy - I guess I would have to agree with you on that, good learning experience to truly read anything that relates to my life.

If you signed a 6 year contract, you can’t re-enlist to reclass until 16 months from your contracts end. Sure you can request it, but the chances of reclassing outside of your window are slim. Additionally, if you do reclass, you will pay back the bonus as it was tied to you completing the 6 years as a 91B
