I was recently accepted into the Chaplain Candidate Program while currently on active duty. I have been trying to start the discharge paperwork, but I am not permitted to because of "my place of duty." Being accepted into the program, while active duty, means that I will not get my orders until I have been discharged. I cannot find anything online, after various searches, about what documentation is needed to begin a discharge packet. I have 4187 and a 368 signed by the respective approving authorities. I have not been able to get guidance from my first line due to the busy nature of the training room. I was wondering if someone could provide some guidance on the subject so that I may complete this.

Did you try talking to the unit chaplain? I feel like if you have a 368 signed by the approving authority you should be able to start the transition process. I don't have a clue on the Chaplain Candidate Program but if you need discharged from AD to start, you have the 368 signed, you should be able to go to your transition center. I'd ask them too (your installation transition center).

The "busy nature of the training room" sounds like some bs to me though.

A long time since I was S-1, but if Chaplain Candidate is like most schools, the Schoolhouse generates the Orders. In OCS, you don't get discharged until the day you Commission. I would call the Schoolhouse and ask what their procedures are on the subject.
