I want to start off by saying I don’t know much about the process. I recently was “recommended by the panel” for my AGR application for the board from 4-8 APR 2022. I am currently active duty 36B SSG, my ets is Jan 2024. How does that work exactly IF I am selected for a position. Will they wait until I ETS for me to start (which I assume is the case)? Also I know nobody can really answer this next question but I’m going to ask anyway, when is a estimated time I could here back from HRC ? Thank you for your time helping me in advance.

I thought I answered this earlier, but I guess I forgot to hit post....

You aren't eligible to join the AGR this year unless you're indef. If you're indef and your ETS is 2024 as a SSG then you'd be at 18 years and getting ready to retire.

Your ETS is 2024, as MSG (Join to see) pointed out a recommendation is only good one year. That's pretty standard for acceptance for any thing in the Army. You'll have to apply next year and get accepted.

You can't transition into another component until your ETS, since you're not Indef you can't REFRAD at the date you want. The Regular Army won't release you until then, and anyone who says "Conditional Release" is sending you on a snipe hunt.

It’s a much easier process going active to Reserve AGR. The National Guard because of its state mission can be a pain. Especially if you don’t know anyone within the unit.

What would normally happen is that after recommendation, your packet will go to HRC. If HRC decides to contract you with AGR, then you would essentially transition to AGR with a 3 year contract. At least, I believe the initial AGR contract is for 3 years. You would more than likely transition into the AGR program with the new contract before your already established ETS date. However, it could be either a few months or several months before you are notified. According to the HRC AGR FAQ:

"7. I was recommended by a panel when will I receive an offer?

Availability of positions is based upon the often fluctuating needs of the AGR Program; therefore, timelines for offer receipt cannot be predicted. Soldiers remain on the recommended list for one year. Soldiers that do not receive an offer within one year of being recommended by the panel must resubmit an application in order to reappear before the panel. Ensure your contact information is updated on all DOD/Army systems."

You can't actually transition from Regular Army to a Reserve Component without separating. It's actually the same for the opposite direction as well. The Regular Army doesn't release people with a contractual ETS earlier than their ETS date. People with an Indef reenlistment are treated like officers and they can REFRAD at any time

SFC (Join to see) - Since he was asking about AGR, I naturally thought he was TPU or M-Day. Didn't look at his profile to see what his component was. Thank you for clearing that for me.
