I don’t know if there’s a difference but I’m in the reserves. But i heard besides the base pay, I’m also getting BAH there and COLA? Idk what that is.
But in total of those with my base, after 9 months, let’s say I didn’t spend money, how much will i make after?

Thanks all.

Assuming you live in the same zip code of your unit, you are single with no kids, $26,244.
That's base and BAH.
But that would mean staying PFC for the entire time.
Odds are you will make SPC at some point during this rotation, if not before.
That changes the the total.
Also, where you really live is a factor. Where you really live may or may not qualify for COLA.

It's never too soon to learn how pay works.

Also, that $30K I estimated........... I don't know how old you are, or when you plan to retire, but if you just banked that and put it in a run of the mill stock market index Mutual Fund in 30 years that $30K could be $900,000 without doing anything to it, and not even adding more to the balance.

Just saying, deployments like this are an astronomical financial opportunity for the young.

Don't blow it.

Roger sir. I’m still weighing on my options whether to save or bank it.
I do want to invest in a mutual fund but at the same time i also want to bank it so i can pay some of the debts and bills i have that way i don’t have to worry about them.

I’m 36 and no kids, sir

PFC (Join to see) - I'll just recommend mutual funds with very low fees. Vanguard Investments is at the top of my list (I'm an investment professional in my civilian career). Read the fine print in what the fees are for any given mutual fund. You will find Vanguard among the cheapest, and simply having a mutual fund with cheaper fees beats out any other fund that charges more but claims to have higher returns. Especially if those higher returns are not countered by the additional fees.

You're probably looking at $30k+ if you save it all. Your BAH location is going to drive that.

Also, I don't know if they still do it, but you can save up to $10K at 10%, which is another $750 guaranteed. Now......... I tried, there are limits, and once you drop off mob orders the account closes and they wire you the money back (otherwise I would have left it in there forever).

The problem with that savings program is you have to personally go to finance, and finance will NOT LET YOU deposit the $10K in one single transaction. The max you can deposit at a time each month is your total pay check. So ironically........ the ones this program is suppose to help slows them down to get the benefit that is being given. A COL could do that in a single month. A PFC is going to spend a few months getting there.

Additionally........... as a PFC you'd have to get the personal time from your supervisor to attend to your personal business at finance while finance is open to make the deposit.

But it's a guaranteed 10% so don't neglect it.
