How do I apply for disability for an issue that started on Active Duty and has been chronic since moving over to the reserves?

How does the VA treat/account for a disability for a chronic condition when I am not on long-term orders?

So there are two ways to look at this. If you need it claimed as a disability and you are pursuing a percentage for it thats one thing. If it is referenced at all in your medical records you have a shot but even if it isn't start a claim. You can use an advocate like a VSO to help with it.
As for treatment if you are eligible for VA healthcare just bring it up to your PCP and get the ball rolling.

Do you have documentation that this occurred during an Active Duty period or was related to your military service? If so, just file online, with a Patient Advocate, or a VSO. If you are still on Reserve Duty, you just need to be aware that you will get docked your duty time from any disability payment.
I did most of my service as National Guard/Reservist. I had a historical record of hearing loss until my last military physical when I was rated H-3, given a permanent profile and had to get a DA Waiver. Didn't have any problems with getting VA to treat or rate me.

Medical records are sketchy--they were pre-digital, and some were lost during transition to reserves. There was no LOD determination while on reserve duty; is that needed? Understand about $--no double-dipping. I just want to make sure I'm covered post-retirement.

Col (Join to see) - I had copies of my physicals, so that helped me. My advice is to go to one of the Veteran Service Organizations with all your information and let them have a go at it. I used DAV in area and they seemed to get things through about as fast as it goes with VA.

VA is supposed to have access to all your DOD records. Apply, the worst than can happen is they say no, then you still can appeal.
