When I was in the Navy, I might see some tattoos on fellow sailors like anchors and such.

Tattoos are fine per each of the Services policies on tattoos. The tats allowed will depend on type, location and size. Again, each Service has their own particular policy.

Thank you Sargent. As a former Hospital Corpsman, I appreciated your quick response. What raised the question, in my mind, was an article I read about an abused ROTC student that wants to get into the Army. She had extensive tattoos over her arms and probably other not observable places. I was hoping her body art would not prevent her from achieving her goal.

PO2 Steven Russell - Non-observable places aren't a real concern....well...that is until a medical procedure is needed and those covered tats become uncovered. As long as the tats are not offensive, over a certain area of size, plus a few other things that elude me right now....tats are fine.

Each branch of service has tattoo policies. As long as the individual meets the criteria it shouldn't be an issue.
