I am prior service and have been out for a little over a year and want to re join. However my line scores aren’t the greatest and I really want to reclass to a 68W but I am being told I am not able to retake the ASVAB. Is there a loop hole to this? I took my last ASVAB in 2015. If not would I potentially be able to sign up for the BSEP class on a military base as prior service? Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Anyone can take the ASVAB, but who is going to sponsor you to go and when is a different story. USAREC has no reason to send someone with passing scores to retest and possibly fail, that's just stupid. You're prior service you're already basically a burden to them, it's more of a favor to you to get you back into the Army than it is for you to join.

You need them more than they need you..

As for the ASVAB, if you're a military member in good standing you can go to any military Ed center and retake the ASVAB. No, you can't take BSEP because you're not in the Army, but there are plenty of online GT improvement classes. GT is 50% math and 50% English comprehension and you only need a 107 GT and a 101 ST. If you can't score those without a course, you probably shouldn't be in charge of handling life saving/death giving medications and medical interventions.

As for the scores you can probably bypass them if you already have a national registration EMT Basic certification. You might even get a waiver if you're one or two points off.

After that, the real question is why do you want to be a medic? Chances are, whatever next step you're hoping for has an even higher bar to overcome.

Thank you for answering and being up front I appreciate it. So if I had an EMT certification I could bypass the scores? As of right now I don’t qualify for a waiver unfortunately. My second question is would I be able to take the ASVAB at the Ed center as a prior service or I’d have to rejoin first? TIA

SPC (Join to see) I'm not saying you can bypass the score with an EMT cert, you can be accessed under the Civilian Acquired Skills Program and probably be granted a waiver, depending on how many points you're missing.

If you don't have a military affiliation you aren't authorized to use the Ed center

I am currently a US Army Recruiter and I have retested prior service applicants before but it is rawly done as of December 2023.

Rules must have changed. I was out for 5.5 years before getting back in back in '08. I took the ASVAB then. And the last time I took it prior to '08 was '96.
