I am a new retiree, and after consistently being seen at the local MTF's, my coworkers informed me that VA health care might be better. So i decided to give it a try. I was amazed on how receptive the VA doctor was to my needs. Now besides it taking almost 3 months to see your PCM on the VA side, what truly is the difference between the VA health care and Tricare ? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The VA Medical System being swamped with outpatients is a great downside to the treatment it provides. Yes, it does take three months between visits, however, it is a valuable medical safety net!

That depends more on which VA hospitals are seeing the backlogs. But you are correct about it can take up to 3 months. It took me 2 months see a Dr. after applying to the VA. Now I am seeing my Dr. again for my yearly physical. After I saw almost every month for 4 months straight last year.

It's great that there are really good professionals to take care of your well-being. I was very worried about this. Since there are no guarantees, if a person cannot help himself, the medical staff must come to him. But how do you know that everything will be in good faith?

Service connected is the VA. All other medical is not unless the VA is your primary care. With Tricare being your Primary Care, you can use the VA online website to coordinate...doctor to doctor...this is new.
