I recently accepted a new position at my current job that is classified as a "professional" position . I was told by HR that I have to take a professional headshot and that I need to find a place that does so. Since I have to do that, I was thinking about taking another one in my dress uniform. Does anyone here have experience with this? How much do these fancy photo shoots cost?

Honestly, just a friend with a decent camera, digital preferred, and a decent backdrop.

Why would you wear your military uniform for a non-military job? If it IS a military position, then go with the uniform (of course), otherwise wear appropriate business attire.
Regarding "how much" - that's going to widely vary depending on where you live. However, there are numerous 'cheaper' options that going to a professional studio.
Why don't you ask the other's in the 'rogues gallery' and see what they did for their head shot.

My apologies 1LT (Join to see) - I read quickly. You did say "taking another one in my dress uniform".
Would recommend that you first get your official DA Photo (if you haven't already) and see if that works for you. Head to https://vios.army.mil/ and find a DA photographer near you.
You can easily transform it into a "headshot" since you'll have it digital (my profile pic is just a trimmed DA photo).
If it works for you, then you can save yourself a few bucks and not have to worry about updating your DA photo for a bit.

I personally just went to local JC Penny photo studio. It's literally the photo in my profile.
I wouldn't call it fancy. It's a step up from say the DA Photo process.

I actually never would of guessed. I took a peak at their pricing and I’m convinced that I’ll just go through them. Thank you for the info sir.

1LT (Join to see) - Some of us are old enough that if we wanted formal pictures going to a photo studio was the only way to do, and all the media we were ever going to get was going to be printed with a chemical process. If we wanted the masters we got things called "negatives", and only more could me made with the "negatives".
So to my surprise JCPenny still does it.
