Can someone tell me what 670-1 says on the wearing of the army green Fleece in civilian clothing

<p>I work in a high rise building for a mortgage company. There are 13 floors and a basement. There is a EMT school in the basement. I have seen Naval, Airforce, and Army service member's in my building conducting various business.In said schooling in the basement I have notice a soldier wearing the army green fleece while wearing civilian clothing. </p><p>As soldiers are we not supposed to mix and match the uniform? can said soldier wear it as long as he takes the tapes and rank off?</p><p>I have been told that we can't but cant find in the 670-1 wear it says it. I want to be correct if I say something to this soldier. He is a PFC.</p>

<p>My question to you is this, besides the fact it isnt a violation if it is sanitized( i can pick up a army issue green fleece from the goodwill or an army navy store) . what is the real reason of worrying about it, You are obviously in the reserves ( I am the UA for my guard unit) If he is working in the basement maybe its cold? maybe he does not make as much money as you , maybe he does not have the resources to buy a comfortable jacket that will keep him warm. in this day and age of REG.REG.REG , we are forgetting the most important part of leadership that is taking care of a Soldier. if anyone is willing to show me where a National guard member and or a Reserve Member cannot wear the items they are issued (santized) I will gladly back you up in this argument. Active duty members sorry folks do not understand the issues facing some of Soldiers , Homelessness, living on the Drill Check and watching that disappear ina fast minute when the budget isnt passed. </p><p>I am more worried in this day and age of unemployment, PTSD, Suicide, Sexual Assaults about Soldier care than if a underemployed SPC is wearing a sanitized Green fleece to stay warm.</p><p> </p><p>Rant over </p>

SSG Jonathan Rowley - senior nco's that get hit with a DUI may not get hit with UCMJ and i'm talking about guards/reserves but their career can be ended, army values violation I forget the other reason been awhile, but I did get this from my units jag officer back a few years ago

While in a TPU status we are still subject to certain ucmj codes. We are not part time soldiers and still have to abide by the regulations and must hold ours selves to a high standard than our civilian counterparts, specially NCOs and Officers. AR 670-1 has some grey areas but the fleece can be worn with civilian attire, provided it's sanitized.

Being retired I don't believe there's an issue with wearing military attire with civies. As you state you can get just about anything from goodwill, etc. so as you say that shouldn't be an issue. There are more important things to worry about anyway.

It appears to me that we are comparing apples to oranges here. If the individuals here happen to be guardsmen or reservist and were at the training because it was part of their civilian jobs, I see no problem with wearing a military jacket, as long as there are no stripes, insignias or name tags, with civilian clothes. If the training was related to their military status then the individuals should have been dressed in military clothing just as if they were at a guard or reserve drill. BTW, I served two years in an infantry outfit and four years in the USAF. 1957- 1963. I'm sure there are those who disagree but that is okay.

SGM Stephen Villalpando yes. That's why he specifically said a soldier in civilian clothes Sergeant Major Villalpando. However the reg may have changed on that topic since I replied in 2014 regardless.

Stripping nametapes off of a uniform does not make it not a military clothing item. As far as old uniforms that are past their wear out date, they are no longer covered and are not active military uniforms so, in my theory, it should not be an issue wearing those worn out items (such as BDUs and the black PT cap).

PO1 William Ewing - If I had a dollar for every time I showed someone the written regulation and pointed out that, "the regulation is what it says on paper, not what some Chief five years ago told you he thought it said," I could take everybody on RallyPoint out to dinner. Modern leg boots are comfortable for motorcycle riding, and are walkable.
