I have a nephew that failed the MEPS physical due to a hearing issue. He has since had corrective surgery MEPS will not reexamine. He had ear canal tubes placed as a child, resulting in scar tissue. tubes and scar tissue has been removed; hearing is now compliant. Is there an appeal process for MEPS reexamination?

If this involved the middle and/or inner ear for those tubes and scar tissue, then he may be PDQ. DoDI 6130.03 in section 5.5 it states any surgery involving the middle and inner ear is a DQ. Your nephew and his recruiter can try to submit a waiver request, but dont put much hope on it.

COL Randall C. - I was on my phone when I responded. Wasn't sure if I could have added the DoDI from my phone.

This entity has too much authority, and little patience for disputing their judgment.
