What is the process from Army Reserve to reclass to Active Duty?

I have been a 88M in the Army Reserve for 3 years now. I love what I do but my career field is in law enforcement and I wanted to reclass to 31B (MP) on Active Duty. What is the process of reclassing to 31b and going Active Duty?

DD Form 368 (Request for Conditional Release) completed through item 4 provided to S1 to route through chain of command to first general officer. If/when approved, take the DA 368 to the (active duty) recruiter. Once a active duty contract has been signed, provide a copy to your S1 to request reserve discharge orders.
In addition to the DA638, the packet requires: DA4187, justification memo by you, exit counseling from retention and commander.
This can be a lengthy process.

Everything that MAJ (Join to see) told you is correct, that is the current guidance for USAR. Everything 1SG (Join to see) told you is incorrect and the definition of bad advice.
The approval authority for a conditional release in any service is the first General Officer in your chain of command. In the USAR that's the Commanding General. A few years ago they produced a policy that says they expect all Soldiers to honor their commitment to the USAR unless dire financial circumstances prevent the Soldier from doing so. That means that unless you meet this requirement your Commander is not supposed to endorse your conditional release. If you think you're going to "demand an audience" or "don't take no for an answer" to the General, you will be disappointed.

While it happened a long time ago, respectfully, it worked for me.
You quoted policy, I gave an example of a successful resolution.
I also, disagree about access to senior leadership. In a recent case I observed a SPC get access to DIV CG to discuss a letter of reference for OCS simply by asking in a town hall.
There are always different paths to the same location. As an individual you simply need to be informed, be engaged, and take the path that works for you.

1SG (Join to see) the Chief of the US Army Reserves is located on Fort Bragg at the top of the USARC building which is shared with the FORSCOM building. It's a secured building that you can't even access without a badge. So, unless he is close to Fort Bragg, that's not happening. Even for someone on Fort Bragg, you can't just walk in.

SFC (Join to see) again, I mentioned BDE level and I offered a different path in support of process and I have seen it have positive results.
As a citizen soldier, many leaders at higher levels are extremely familiar with self advocacy in the workplace and in many instances actually approve of that approach based on their style of leadership. Obviously we won’t agree on this, but I appreciate your time and open and honest exchange of ideas. I am just not the submit the p/wk and cross your fingers type. My style has been successful for me and your style obviously works for you and it’s the totality of our military that makes us so strong.

Conditional release and AD opening in the MOS/grade. Release hard to come by if your current unit is under strength. Don’t let anyone tell you No without asking to see them in person to plead your case. Good luck

SPC (Join to see) SO long ago. I recall I told my PLT SGT my plans, asked to see 1SG for advice. Think in my case BDE CDR was approval authority Maybe that is the DD386, but couldn’t swear. 1SG told me to get on BDE CSM calendar (with his blessing). Said if I convinced BDE CSM I was an asset, he would get the “Old Man” (BDE CDR) to sign off.

1SG (Join to see) Also do your homework Find the AR that covers conditional releases. CAC in and go to Army Publishing and download it on your computer as a .pdf so you can highlight sections and make it a searchable document.
When you get appointment, show up in ASU’s with a current copy of your SRB, pen, paper and the AR. Do research on the BDE CSM and know his bio and try and find out as much about him as you can.
Don’t expect to be the smartest guy in the room, WORK to be the most PREPARED guy in the room.
