Now that they got rid of the requirement of the Covid-19 shot, why won't they let back in those who refused the shot to finish their service?

Nothing definitive, but apparently discussions are underway at DoD to allow enlisted that were dismissed for not being vaccinated back in if they were separated honorably and otherwise don't have any marks against them (i.e., meet age, HT/WT, no bar on reenlistment, etc).
Officers are to be "held to a higher standard" and likely won't be let back in.
Is there likely to be "full reinstatement with back-pay and appropriate career progression if they hadn't been kicked out"? No.
Time will tell though.

That projected 15,000 shortfall (that's only the Army) in retention probably helped them.

I would imagine that a few would want to return. Though I understand that it won't be a blackmark against them in their records, I think it would be held against them "informally" as "non team players". And would reflect such on their ERB's, schools, promotions etc. Most likely the only ones that would want to return are the one's that were close to retirement. I know a few that got booted out or just left, that they wouldn't return if their lives depended on it, which I think is ironic in so many ways. I also hear that the current culture in the Army has changed a lot since I was in. Which saddens me because I'm proud of the 25 years of my service to our nation and to see what's happened over the last few years is truly depressing. Crazy times we are in for sure. And to all of you; I Salute you for your Service and a Big Thanks!!!

There's a kid in my Reserve unit that refused the shot over religious reasons. Even refused the shot that was apparently religious faith based safe....I'm still not sure, honestly.....he mentioned that he'd like his chapter packet pulled back now that the mandate is over.

I guess you can believe what you want but folks and I mean a lot of folks are having some pretty significant reactions to them. A reporter for ABC News Australia has revealed that she developed pericarditis after receiving her first dose of Pfizer Covid vaccine. In her own words, it has been "a living hell".

One might say that is like any other policy change leading to separation. Put a Soldier out in the 80s and 90s for tattoos that can be seen, now they can have tats all over accept I think the face. So they cannot renter, I do admit a bit of sarcasm here, I too believe they should allow them reentry as long as they can meet all other requirements, fitness etc.
I believe the only thing holding them back now is the assessment of legal precedence.

So where I think the whole reversal is going to fall flat is the entire process to get them back in.
1) Do they want back in
2) Are they going to have to go through medical all over again as if they were prior service of those kicked out early are least likely to have issues, are those with prior profiles going to be let back in?
3) How long is this going to take
4) Those with the best change of reentry are those going to be most recent and most pissed off least likely to come back.
5) Now this is happening how is that going to impact future vaccination initiatives.
Sounds like a fun dilemma at a pay grade I will never remotely reach.
