I want to preface everything by saying I’m working on these issues locally through my own channels, however I figured if someone else has gone through either process of obtaining medical records or old awards (trivial stuff never given in my units like promotion orders/good conduct medals etc.) I’d love to hear anyone’s experience and advice in the matter.

First and least important is simply what you do when missing things for SFC board that are from long ago. My promotion orders and good conduct medals were never something my unit printed. They just said good job on making the list and promoted you and GCMs just appeared on ERBs, which not having it in records is obviously a problem for the board.

Then there is the mess that is medical record. I just looked on patient portal and almost none of my history is there. While some things I can probably request locally, has anyone had to deal with these issues? I have about 8 years of records just none-existent and a lot of pretty serious issues too.

Like I said, I’m working it as best I can but any advice would be great.

Your medical records are available they're just not on the portal you're looking for. Various duty stations use various electronic systems over the last decade between MHS Genesis, Tricare Online, and AHLTA. All your encounters are recorded in one of these systems. When you retire or separate you will go to the medical records section and request a printout/CD of all your records.

SSG (Join to see), regarding your medical records, I just want to be clear - I assume that you've been being seen at an MTF for those eight missing years, correct? If so, this sounds like a backend problem and not a unique episode one since the military went full digital on health records since the mid-2000s.

First, contact the DHAGSC* and let them know the issue. They can then do deep dive on why your records are not showing up in TOL.

Second, you can send a request for all medical records (submit on SF-180*) to the MTFs that you've been seen at. It's possible they have an archived copy of your medical records and/or some hardcopies.

go to IPPSA self service. Are you active duty, there is a difference on this. If not active duty. Go to the HRC website. Make sure you have a DSLOGON account.
