My boyfriend is prior marines and he is trying to re-enlist in the army but he is 1 point off of ST from 35p. His recruiter told him that it’s impossible for him to get a asvab waiver due to prior service, is this true?

As Recruiters are the Subject Matter Experts on ASVAB requirements for MOSs.....I'm going to side with this being true

Thank you! I happened to know another recruiter but in a completely different state (I assume it shouldn’t matter since he is trying to join active duty) and he told me that my bf can get a waiver for just one ST. So I’m confused as to who is correct.

Aren't Prior Service allowed to retest if it is required for a new MOS? It would seem to me to be the easiest way to qualify.

Last I heard there was NO waivers granted for bad test scores- be it 1 point or ten.

I'm sorry to scare you, but in the USAR, when I was a company commander as a 1LT there was an exception where I as the receiving commander could submit a memo for acceptance for an OCS application that the recruiter could submit with the packet.

Now..... I was not the authorizing authority. It was merely a requirement (the receiving commander submit a memo of acceptance) in the waiver process.

I only remember this because my Brigade Commander pushed down the request to my level and it was pressed on me to sign the memo and return it.

He is likely speaking from experience and tribal knowledge rather than fact. Find another recruiter that might be hungrier and willing to do the paperwork. Just make sure he goes in and gets straight to the point. Time is a precious commodity for a recruiter.
