Good Morning,
I’m an E4 waiting to go to BLC for my E5. Before I go to BLC however I have been scheduled to attend Phase 2,3,4 of 35F Residency course. I had to take the Distance Learning portion of the course already and passed, now I’m set to go to school in Arizona in July. I’m just wondering what should I expect and what are ways I should prepare? It’s been awhile since I’ve been in a TRADOC environment so I’m curious. What can I expect from the course? Are there materials that I should study and/or bring with me before hand? What does the course load and schedule for school look like ? What about school house rules? Are prior service SM integrated with IET soldiers? Living situation? PT in the morning? My questions are not very specific so any and all information will be helpful.

Thank you !

Prior service only interact with IET soldiers during class. They will brief you to not interact with the IET soldiers outside of class or it's fraternization. That's how it was when I went to AIT at Huachuca in 2004-05 (when we were still 96Bs, now 35F). We had some reclass soldiers in our class and us IET were told to stay away from them too. Did that happen? No but they just got lucky they didn't get caught. Prior service were in different barracks than the IET soldiers. They probably did PT just didn't do it with us when I was in AIT. I only saw them at class. Maybe the DFAC. You won't have to deal with or interact with drill sergeants unless you mess with IET soldiers in any way.

I'm not sure what they're teaching now for 35F. I know I have heard from newer soldiers they never did anything analog - it was all on DCGS. When I went, we didn't touch the system at the time (ASAS-L) until the last few weeks. We did a lot of analog stuff - and by that I mean acetate and markers on maps doing MCOOs and IPB on acetate on maps. We spent a lot more time learning symbology than they do now. I know when we got soldiers when I was in Corps ACE, we had to teach them a lot sadly, about how to be intel analysts. A lot seem to have no writing skills unfortunately which sucks when that's a big part of our job. Critical thinking skills are good to have. Honestly if you can find time to find some online classes for critical thinking or if you need to work on writing, do that.

My experience was 19 years ago so I know a lot has changed and not really for the better. Also - realize as a 35F you're probably going to end up in an S2 shop more often than not and they do not teach us ANYTHING about security manager stuff in AIT for 35F. But you're a Reservist so you might not have that issue.
