Indeed.. and it will only last so long. once the knee-jerk reaction is over, they will leave. And what happens when a militia personnel gets hurt or killed. Does the military want any kind of liability in that; hell no.

As I stated in the thread started by RallyPoint Shared Content, there is no clear solution to the immediate, 50 meter threat. Having militas stand armed outside of recruiting stations is a great idea but in practice can be very bad. To me, its like throwing gas on the fire hoping it will stay under control.

Amateurs just itching to shoot someone... The liability issues alone are staggering.

LTC Bink Romanick - Exactly! As are the liability issues with arming everyone in uniform both on and off duty. We have a fair share of issues with service members acting a fool when off duty, throw a loaded weapon into the mix and watch out. I've been accused today of saying we should leave our brothers and sisters-in-arms as sitting ducks because I'm not on board the "arm everyone" express. That couldn't be further from the truth. I'm just merely looking at the overall issue. There is no 100% right solution for the situation, some suggestions have great intentions but yet are full of points of failure.
