I tend to be a bit more trusting than the individual perhaps deserves. I generally expect the best out of people, which has led to me seeming naive at times, at least in my mind.

Similairly and on a related note, I tend to expect people to be more competent than they actually are, but I don't know if that says anything about me or if it's a sad commentary on our current state of affairs..

I learned during deployments that I needed to have a better contingency plan for family care because my wife got sick but was such a pain in the butt that her own parents wouldn't go to her aid. (We never had a good marriage) My insides were twisting and turning and I let that powerless feeling get to me mentally. Sorry spouses, sponsors can't stop the war and go running home to prove that you are the most important thing in their lives. Maybe that should only be directed to those with a narcissistic personality disorder. I do see younger service members in general falling for scams more than they should. I'm afraid that we get accustomed to hearing information hard, fast, and succinct. The seniors don't buy it, because their BS detectors are operational and constantly scanning. I told my troops that if there was even a garnishment attaching to their paycheck then it was MY BUSINESS. I had SSG's that still paid 16+% to get their DREAM RIDE. I put it in writing that we discussed it and THEY CHOSE to disregard my advice. WHY? Bcause I got tired of them being too trusting and this way my hiney was covered. TRUST GOD! Everyone else is suspect and wants something from you.

I second what SFC Michael Hasbun said about trusting and having expectations concerning others competency. I'm also a bit of an introvert, which can make the military culture challenging at times.
