How long can I expect to have to wait for an entry-level 35L opening (Reserves)?

I am currently attempting to secure a Reserves 35L contract pending medical waiver. My recruiter recently contacted me saying that a unit close to me, despite having 10+ vacancies in this MOS, was "not accepting vacancy loads (exempt unit)" or something to that effect. Apparently this means that there are functionally zero vacancies for this MOS available for me to fill in my state or immediately adjacent ones. I am fully qualified for the position. I am not particularly interested in any other jobs. How long of a wait should I expect?

Two things:
1. in the Reserve compos (Army Reserve and Army Guard) they typically want to interview the candidate before accepting them for 35M or 35L.
2. The Army Reserves is divesting a lot of 35M and 35L. Could be that unit is locked because next year that unit won't have 35L at all.
You should consider talking to an Army Guard recruiter if this is the MOS you want.

This is news, everyone seems to be saying that it's the other way around and ARNG 35Ls are either being forced to reclass or seek a conditional release to the Reserves soon. Could it be that it's being phased out in the reserve components as a whole?

Griffin Cederquist - Just try walking into that unit near you and ask if they are losing those positions or if you need to interview for it.

Griffin Cederquist - Yes, that is part of the point of putting Guard and Reserve units in the community,
Try to call them first, you might get your questions answered over the phone.
if you can't get them on the phone after a couple of days (the few AGRs in any unit are pretty busy) just drive over.
If they have a policy of conducting interviews before a potential candidate can contract to 35L there, you'll definitely need to talk to them for about an hour.
