I retired (Major/USMC) last summer and immediately applied for my VA disability benefits but here I am in March 2014 and absolutely nothing has been done! Just wondering if anybody has had any success and what was your secret?

I have been fighting the VA since 2000 and I still do not get my benefits. I was just at the VA today. I hate them. Medical care sucks. I had to get a simple shot today and it was a 3 hour appointment.

Oh I have been there for 6-8 hrs. All I needed was a shot but since before I can get this shot, I have to do a urine test. The nurses never ordered it. Then I have to wait one hr for the results before I can get a shot. When I had private insurance I was in and out in 10 mins. I hate the VA honestly. I just had a colonoscopy and they said nothing is wrong when I had one in 2012 with the same issues and they found the bacteria before. I had the worst GI doctor that I saw when I first went in and told them I wanted a new doctor to do the procedure. I am fed up wit the VA and it has been 13 years since I got out where are my benefits. Denied 7 times wtf.

Jania, sorry to hear that it has taken so long! I can't believe it has taken you so long! You must have a ton of patience!!! I hope to call them today to see if they have received my medical records! I really hope they haven't lost them. But I do have my copy so I'm good! Let me know if you need anything and man do I miss San Diego! I lived out there for almost 15 years and miss it so much! Anyway, hope you have a good day and hit me up sometime so I can pick your brain about the VA!

When I go to the VA I plan for the whole day. get in at 0600 no matter what time my Appt is because If I don't I will not be able to find a parking space. I have Breakfast then Lunch if still there. Neither of which is that great. I have been fighting for disability claims since 1998. I am retired Army as disabled yet the VA will not recognize it so as far as the State is concerned I am not disabled unless VA says I am and they won't. So I am unable to claim State Benefits unless VA says so. I did not know VA could over rule the Army when it comes to being classified as Disabled. PDRL means nothing to the VA.

Update: Ha!!!! There is no update as nothing has been done to my disability claim. I did file a new claim on eBenefits as a Fully Developed Claim (FDC) so we'll see if that works!! I still have heard nothing from my VSO which is The DAV. I take it I can call them but what can they really do? The VA has all the paperwork (my original medical and dental records) plus a few other forms that I submitted electronically. It just seems that nothing is going to get done! I would be happy to hear if anybody has actually cracked the code on their claim! Thanks!

If you have trouble with getting any traction with the VA go to your local congressional representative.  They have a staff member who handles VA issues, this way they can speed up the process for you.  I tell all veterans to go through this route, and they all most always get results then trying the traditional way!

I have tried this and have had no results as of yet. I was told that the VA is backed up on it's Congressional replies. I have used congressional complaints with the Army and these days it means nothing to them. It used to be powerful years back. In fact when did get a response back I was not given the opportunity to respond to it. The case was closed even though what came back had nothing to do with what I filed with 52 pages of proof. Another time they would not even follow up on it. I have a case that never closed out at least not with me. So I have no more faith in them as I do the IG or chain of Command. There are all about protecting the Agency less about help you.
