Basically if you believe your next duty station to be your last should you be given a few choices or continue to move people however?
Could this save the Government money?

Gentlemen I am in the same boat as some of you and other out there. I am currently deployed again and I will hit my 20 year mark this September. My unit back at FT. Polk has deactivated and is not longer there.

I have tried to call my branch manager several times and can not seem to reach them at the times they are supposed to be in the office, go figure that seems to always happen.

Anyways I have emailed him and we talked by email and I explained I would like to PCS to Georgia as it is my home of record. I also explained I would like to either go to Benning, Gordon or Stewart any of them would be fine with me as it would let me finish out my last three years for a total of 23 years in.

I was told that I have to have 36 months at my present duty station by regulation, November of this year will put on station for a total of 24 months and January will be 24 months. I understand that but what is the deal if your unit is no longer there and has shut down? I know for a fact that there are several soldiers some that came from my last unit to Polk and have been there less that two years that have already PCSed to other places due to their units shutting down.

Absolutely! I think that would be great! The trick is to communicate this with your branch manager! I have found that most folks do not engage with their branch managers, nor are they completely honest with them! Tell them what you want and why...they'll work with you!

Wow! Sorry to hear that! After 18-19 years...the least he could have done is squared you away!

Yes, and I do agree that it would save the Army money. But I think the option should only be available to folks nearing retirement. Not just because you think you want to get out at 8 years.
