Is it possible to do funeral honors with an active duty installation while in the national guard?

I take heavy pride in doing military funeral honors before I IST'd to a different state near an active duty installation. I am reaching out to the state funeral honors coordinator and he said due to my proximity to the active duty post and their own CAC team, I am unable to do MFH with the state even as an M-day soldier. Is it possible to work with the AD CAC team to see if i can join them and do funerals or should I stop chasing my passion altogether until I IST again? I am here for a work contract. Thanks!

Yes, you are able to participate in an active duty detail as DoDI 1300.15* allows for a total force approach, but the real question is would they have you? Some might and others may only want those from the tasked unit because of some perceived administrative troubles working with a non-organic reservist.
As you pointed out, start with the CAC, give your bona fides, and see what the art of the possible is. It may take coordination between the CAC and your unit to make sure the Is are dotted and the Ts are crossed when it comes to orders, training, etc.

4th Fighter Wing actively recruits reservists for its honor guard. I do not know if that just Wing CC, or USAF policy.
