basic training was an eye opening experience for me. it taught me respect, loyalty and commitment as well as learning who you could trust to have your back in a time of need. there were some shady girls in my unit at basic and they would stab you in the back or throw you under the bus just because you weren't part of their "clique"

AIT was even worse, I was on crutches and the "squad leader" didn't like me. so she tried to make me do the running man, if I am calling it the right name, were you are to start out in pt uniform, then you have get back to room and change into class A unimform and report to her within 15 minutes. she knew it would be impossible for me to do because I was on crutches. I refused to do it, her minions were with her and started yelling at me. I said, you may be the "squad leader" but you are not in charge of me, now if you think I am wrong then call our platoon sergeant and get her on the phone. after I told the platoon sergeant what had happened and what she was trying to make me do, let's just say, her minions departed very quickly and she lost her position that night. she glared at me all the time until she left, which as she was leaving I gave her the one finger wave bye-bye.

I would Never have done that to you, when I was a Squad Leader; PFC (Join to see). That Squad Leader of yours: didn't deserve to be called a leader. Her 'honor' was sadly missing. I am so very sorry that you had that experience with her....especially as you had so very faithfully and rightly, learned respect, loyalty and commitment- in Basic Training.
I am guessing that you went on to make an outstanding Soldier; out of yourself Joyce.
Congratulations, Private First Class.
-With Compassionate Regards, Margaret

SPC Margaret Higgins - Thank you for your kind words.

I got out after I had trouble losing weight from my pregnancy. I had a c-section. plus the MOS I was in was not promoting lower enlisted very much because we had several Specialists that were not going for NCOs.

however, the experience did not make me bitter. they just made stronger and realize that some people when they are in a leadership position the power goes to their head and common sense goes right out the window.

you have a blessed day and wonderful week.
Joyce
