As a fund raiser many years ago, one of my previous units "sold" the command and senior positions to the highest bidder, with the rule that the command would wear their rank and be their "Soldier" just in case a real life event occurred.  A Specialist was the 1SG and a Sergeant was the Commander, another was the Platoon Sergeant etc..
The question is, (1) what would you do if you were the boss for a day. (2) have you ever had to fill in for someone that gave you a better appreciation for what they do?

1. I would try to step in and do the job as effectively as possible. It would be a great learning experience. 2. I have and it just inspired me to do better when I realized that their job was not as difficult as they made it out to be. I have since done the job in a different unit and hopefully my subordinates learn from me like I have from my mentors.

That's very awesome! As a new SFC, I was chosen to be the acting 1SG for a field problem. It had a lot more moving pieces and coordination efforts than I had considered however; I had a lot of fun with the job. Thanks
