I'm a reservist and my finance is full-time. We will be married 2 June of this year. From what I understand, once my fiancé signs his re-enlistment contract we will be moved together. His next duty station is Ramstein, Germany. With me being reserves, I need to know everything I need to do to find a reserve unit and work out there with him. Anyone who has advice, it's appreciated!

SPC Monaco, first, congratulations and best wishes for continued success and happiness to you both; now, this sounds like it will be a great arrangement, one active-one Reserve household, others that I've known in a similar situation have been quite happy. If you haven't already done so, you may want to look into the Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) program, I know that I've seen a ton of advertisements for USAFR IMAs at Ramstein over the years, and would suspect that the Army program is very likely always looking as well.

<p>Absolutely, as I understand it IMA program(s) do have certain similarities to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR), but are not identical. In the past I know that Marine Forces Reserve (MARFORRES) used the IRR in a fashion somewhat like the Army and the Air Force currently use their IMA programs, although I do think that the Marines may have&nbsp;stood-up a formal program in recent years.&nbsp;IMAs are individual reserve members typically assigned to active component units, combat support agencies, etc.; they're typically E4/5/6 and above, and acceptance to the program very likely keys on experience, know-how, record of achievement, etc. The IMA programs&nbsp;draw personnel from the active&nbsp;and&nbsp;Reserve components (to include: traditional unit Reserve, other special Reserve programs, the Nat'l Guard, etc.), and offer much in the way of experience, training, education, and career enhancing opportunities. There are many things that set IMAs apart from their&nbsp;unit&nbsp;Guard and Reserve counterparts,&nbsp;among those is the ability to&nbsp;execute AT/IDT all in one&nbsp;consecutive period (about&nbsp;1.5&nbsp;months +/-), this is very different than the drilling Guard/Reserve world.&nbsp; Here are just a few articles and resources that may help&nbsp;answer a few questions (and will likely generate a few more as well). :&nbsp;)&nbsp; </p><p>&nbsp;http://www.dvidshub.net/news/25187/role-army-individual-mobilization-augmentee#.U0NGuRMo5jo</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://static.dvidshub.net/media/thumbs/photos/0810/123019/1000w_q75.jpg"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a href="http://www.dvidshub.net/news/25187/role-army-individual-mobilization-augmentee" target="_blank">The Role of the Army Individual Mobilization Augmentee</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">An individual mobilization augmentee is an individual army reservist attending drills that receives training and is pre-assigned to an active component organization, a selective service system, or a F...</div></div><div style="clear: both;"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

My suggestion is to see the Reserve Recruiting & Retention Personnel at your base in Germany, once you arrive in country. Each major base in Germany has an office on post- they are one of the check offs for people getting out/ETS-ing in Germany. There are quite a few Reserve Units in Germany- many are under the 7th Civil Support Command, a major reserve command in Germany. If you want to pick up another MOS, that may be a possibility too. I was stationed in Bamberg, Germany (best kept secret in the Army) for two years. Loved it! Good luck to you...

Here are some snapshots of my Army Career Tracker search for U.S. Army Reserve, E-4, 42A in USAREUR. If you are not already on Army Career Tracker, I recommend you enroll, it is an outstanding tool, plus you go under the 'explore my career' tab and do the same search I did. Click on any of the listings it gives you and it will show details. Attached are all from ACT. Good Luck.

The USAR has a unit with locations throughout Germany, the 7th Civil Support Command.&nbsp; If I told you what they did I'd be lying because I don't know.&nbsp; They may be an option.&nbsp; Best of luck:<br>http://www.eur.army.mil/21TSC/7CSC/<br>https://www.rallypoint.com/units/3979<br><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="https://www.rallypoint.com/assets/public/RallyPointlogo-11ff12cdb198acbadac74bdb5de1eeff.png"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="https://www.rallypoint.com/units/3979">7th Civil Support Command (7th CSC) | RallyPoint</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">Join members of 7th Civil Support Command (7th CSC) on RallyPoint. SPC Monaco,
First, you will love Germany.  I spent seven years there.

Second, retention is a good first step.  There are numerous reserve units in and around the KMC wich you could possibly join.  The services of a 42A are always in demand.  Best of luck.

Lastly, be cautious of having to repay a bonus (if you received one).  I say this because some reserve units pay bonuses based on the needs of the unit; if you leave you may have to repay the unit even if you are going into another reserve unit.  I know because I had to repay my reserve unit when I went Regular Army in 2002.

I appreciate that, I will put that into consideration. I am very excited about the possible opportunity to live/work in Germany. I hear nothing but good things. Were you near Ramstein air force base? We will be near Carlisle barracks...

SPC Monaco, I was stationed at Ladstuhl but lived in base housing on Ramstein (about a 10 minute drive).  Carlisle Barracks?  Not too sure, but, I think that would be a long commute to work.
