As a CPT and company commander in a line unit I am being rated by a LTC and senior rated by a COL. When I was a 1LT I was a BDE HHC Company Commander being rated by a COL and senior rated by a BG. Do boards consider the rank of who is doing the rating? Do boards weigh evaluations done by Generals? Should they?

I have always heard that it isn't wise to have a GO rate you.  I don't know if that is true or not but when I had an NCOER due, my senior rater should have been a 1-star.  That's an NCOER and not an OER though so I am not sure.  I can't imagine getting a GO rating if you are a LTC or a COL is a bad thing...

You would think that it would be a good thing. Provided that they were good comments from the more experienced and higher rating officers.

That does sound logical, but logic and the Army don't always mix.
