I am considering changing my MOS to 25D. My reasoning for the change is simply because, within the last couple of years there hasn't been any 25B's getting picked up for the ranks of SFC or MSG. It is getting extremely hard to get promoted as a 25B. I have been looked at twice so far. My question is, what should I consider studying before I go to the course, and also do anyone know what I can expect once I attend the course. Once my packet gets approved.

SFC, I just graduated from the course with the third highest grade in my class (the only two who beat me out by a couple of points were a Reservist and a National Guard member who'd been doing this job for years on the civilian side). I was told to study Python before attending the course. I found that only helped me get through the Python portion. I went into the rest of it blind, with only a CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certification under my belt. My impression is that anyone with a basic knowledge of Help Desk and Systems Admin can pass the course if they have good study habits. Go for it! The best way to get through this course is to read the book. You get 6x 300 page books per two-week course while you're there. Each book has two to three paragraphs per page on average. If you read after class and dedicate several hours on each weekend day, you should be able to get through it. I found that those who failed out of the course simply did not put in the time studying, drank too much on the weekends, and did not focus. If you have other questions, just ask.

I do have a question, I got my packet together. My GT is 107 and my ST 99. Do you think I will have to retake the ASVAB to get my ST above 105 to be accepted to attend a 25 D Course. Also, I have a secret clearance right now. Do I have to have a Top Secret clearance before attending the course? Any guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated. One more question, how long are the classes on a daily basis. I heard that the hours are from 0600hrs to 2300hrs is that accurate?

The GT and ST is waived to 100 so you would have to retake the ASVAB I know this because I have a soldier in the same situation. I am not sure how long the classes are (time wise) but I do know that the classes are like drinking from a fire hose so you would really have to dedicate yourself to studying unless you are familiar with a lot of the stuff being taught. As far as the TS clearance you would just need to request from your S2 to start your clearance with the reason of re-classification that process doesn't normally take to long it's getting the full clearance that takes time.
