A different perspective: How does looking at something from a different perspective help resolve problems?

When you look at the landscape from different locations you see different things. It's no different when looking at current events. We tend to look at things from a narrow point of view limiting our understanding of the situation. What if we did the opposite and looked at different views of the same situation?
In order to solve problems we have to find the right perspective. Perhaps the most important thing is to look at a situation from another person's viewpoint. This doesn't mean we have to agree with it or adopt it, only that it can be useful in resolving matters.

Of course yelling racial epithets at someone is wrong. It doesn't take much analysis or look at life through someone else's perspective to understand that. You just have to have basic morals.
That doesn't mean that America should open its doors to all comers or ignore the possibility that some of the folks already here may have connections with (or be sympathetic to) the Islamic State. Our politicians are elected and paid to analyze issues and enact policies that are in the best interest of all Americans. Hopefully our politicians have more morals than the jerks who were yelling at this young man.
