Advice for becoming a Drill Sergeant?

If I stay in the Army long enough, one of my main goals to accomplish will be to become a successful Drill Sergeant. If you've been one, what are the best steps to take to make the time on the trail successful? Is it even worth it anymore? I've heard too many stories about BCT in general becoming way too soft. I don't know if I'd be able to teach if I can't emulate how my DSs trained me.
