After a long week in the field sometimes our plt Sgts would buy a case of beer for the platoon. Do you believe that is unprofessional?

I don't know what the standard is now days. My pilot bought a 40LB (in the Azores) for my birthday. We had to fly so no drinking until we are on the ground. We finally ended up in the BOQ. 5 bottles later I got enlisted flying clothes and we all went to to midnight chow. I miss those guys. I would fly with them anytime any place.

It is if there are kids under 21 in the platoon....that being said, buying the platoon a case of sodas and pizza works along the same lines, and raises less eyebrows.....and gets around the legal drinking age thing.

Just another one of those things that was perfectly normal "back in the day' but taboo now.

"law" or not, if they're only given a few to help loosen up, what the hell... now throwing barracka keggers for kids in garrison isn't responsible, but if they've earned it, let everyone cut loose, and just casually supervise as any SNCO should already be doing

Coming from a soldier that got caught having alchohal underage, it sucks. But i also learned that there is not really anything we can do about it.

The "legal" drinking age is set at a state level in the US. There is no Federal drinking age. With that said, a Base/Post Commander can state that 18+ is of drinking age for all military members, but they have to stay on base/post.
