After leaving AD in October for the NG, can I change over to IRR if I haven't received my bonus and I now know my VA rating?

I left active duty back in October and signed a 6 year guard contract with a $20k bonus. Its been 6 months no bonus and i recently got my letter from the VA back stating i got 100% VA disability due to messing up my back and knee on a previous deployment. My question is can I change over to IRR now since i still have received no bonus and now know my VA rating?

As for the bonus they cannot issue it until you transition. Getting out of your contract should be relatively simple. Contact the sane office you transitioned with and provide a copy of your Disability.

You can still serve in the guard with a VA rating, they just don't pay you your VA pension for the days you are drilling or at AT. If you think your physical condition is such that you can't continue service you should look into a med board.

There is a difference between a"schedular" rating of 100% and 100% "unemployability". I know several people with VA ratings of 100% that work. They tell you right at the VA briefings when i got off active duty and hired into the government that you can be rated 100%. When I got mobilized recently CRC says they have deployed reservists who are rated 100%.

You are quite correct sir, 100% Permanent and Total disability based on schedular table is authorized to work, 100% TDIU is not. I received the same VA briefing you must have, back in July of 2018. Not sure why SGT Gray thinks his VA reps know so much more than ours do.

I just wanted to comment, SFC Jeremy Boyd is correct on confirming what LTC said. You CAN work with 100% disability or P&T (permanent and total). But you can NOT work on 100% Total Disability Individual Unemployability (TDIU).

there are different types of 100% ratings. One way you can be considered employable, the other is you are considered unemployable. With that in mind if you are considered employable you have to waive your VA compensation in order to serve, and most units will not take anyone with above a 30% rating.
