Re-enlisted to reclass to 89B with Airborne. Have a report date for after AIT to Fort Cambell. What unit could I go to at Fort Cambell that’s Airborne?

I believe the only airborne at Ft Campbell other than 5th Group (and their support) is the 160th SOAR. 101st used to have a Pathfinder Company, but it was deactivated a few years ago.

I was a young soldier in the 160th. I said I wanted to airborne and I had orders the following day.

It’s the SF Group you would be going to. The only other Airborne unit is the 160th and you have to volunteer for that and pass Green Platoon.

SFC (Join to see) yeah that’s what happened to my wife and she wasn’t even Airborne qualified it’s just her MOS at the time was severely short staffed and 160th needed it badly! It’s actually how we met and got married!

WO1 John C. that’s funny that’s the same MOS my wife was as well and she was cross trained as a 15P as well! Non-Airborne qualified when she got out as well!

When I was at 160th, we would have branches put Soldiers in AIT on AI for critically short MOSs based off security clearance and GT score.

SFC (Join to see) they still do, it’s just extremely rare compared to the amount that get sent to SFG. Plus, since the 160th is completely voluntary the Soldiers can just decline to go. They can’t decline to go to a regular Airborne assignment

Rigger Unit got deactivated when the Pathfinder Companies lost Airborne status! 16 Oct 2013 I should know I did the ceremony as the NCOIC!
