Good legal advice. When you do this in uniform, it implies Army endorsement of a fundraising campaign.

If you are a regular consumer of internet-based media, then you are probably aware of the many ice bucket challenges that people and organizations are sharing in support of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

While this is for a good cause, the Office of the Army General Counsel has ruled that service members should not take the ice bucket challenge in uniform and share it on the internet.

The key take-away here is what you can and cannot do in uniform. This does not prohibit taking part in activities such as this during off-duty hours out of uniform.
