I wish it (Tricare Standard) covered chiropractic and glasses/contacts. My only real surprise moving from civilian coverage. Other than that, I have been very happy with it. Then again, I am not a high demand user. (Tricare Active for me, Standard/Prime for the wife.)

Yes, they should. The VA is often very understaffed for things like acupuncture. We have one acupuncture provider at the Pittsburgh VA so our clinic signed up for Veterans Choice to get vets more access for this service. Maj Kim Patterson

Absolutely. MDs and DOs have long held this belief that medicine began and ended with them. The use of chiropractic, homeopathy, acupuncture, to mention a few, have had dramatic and very positive impacts on health care, and those fields should be heartily embraced by the larger medical community.

CAM can be dangerous due to inadequate levels of education. Not even major medical insurances cover most of that. Some of it can be helpful, but not enough to warrant bringing the providers into Government service which validates their practice and obligates the government to pay for it.

Some of these have strict licensure and they are still not on the table. Though I do agree with your statement.

Very much so, everything is a dollars games, and strategic approaches on one end of the spectrum is not a clear course of action on another end of the spectrum. IMHO, there really are certain "type" of people who would even look into these methods, otherwise I have found a majority of others that see it as "witch-doctoring" and "voodoo" or even the placebo effect. At the end of the day, people have to remain effective or they get booted overtime. The same methods can't truly be the most effective and efficient ways to support individuals who may benefit from not taking mind altering medications.

I am an acupuncture clinical intern and was just asked if Tricare paid. Nope. Tricare wouldn't pay for my acupuncture and it has drastically improved the quality of my life. Glad I know that the quality of my life is my responsibility. Some people don't see it that way.

I actually use Ryodoraku using the AcuGraph 5. So, it is Japanese style meridian therapy. I use a root and branch approach. AcuGraph is the root treatment and then I use symptomatic points or laser therapy for the branch (symptomatic) treatment. I did my training with Dr. Tsun Nin Lee in San Francisco. It is the only medical acupuncture course that had a TCM approach.

I would love to know more about this. I think that is wonderful. I am also learning a Japanese meridian therapy based on Worsley five elements and eight principal. My herbal studies is primarily eight principal.

I like it because it allows me to substitute the electrical meridian assessment for tongue and pulse diagnosis, which is very subjective even for experienced practitioners. The TCM folks who use AcuGraph swear by it and think it is a lot better than tongue and pulse diagnosis.

I would say just look at the data and ignore the politics. If you compared the medical benefits of marijuana to acupuncture it is a no contest, but you see which one is paid for.
