So I am an e5 with 6 and a half years in service. I am trying to reclass to 11b but it’s impossible as an e5 it seems. Would this be possible? If so would it be horrible for my career?

Lol that’s just ridiculous. Just go to Ranger School and it’s a quick fix. 11B2 is under strength right now so when it’s time to reenlist you can choose it. Or, you could request an ETP through your BDE CDR to request to reclass. I’m sure HRC would approve that one.
The biggest issue with your request is that there have not been any 11B class seats for a long time. Easier to just graduate Ranger School

SGT (Join to see) at the top of the In/Out calls is a blurb that says any Ranger qualified Soldier in the rank of SGT non promotable can request reclass into 11B without training.

Quick question — why would you want to reclassify to an 11b? Nothing wrong with the MOS but will it really help you once you get out of the military? Think of the long run and your future outside the military. What valuable skills within the infantry will translate into the civilian world? If you don’t care then infantry is for you. Again not knocking it, but I’d want a career that will carry me forward. Best of luck to you and your future endeavors.

Do not believe it would hurt him. My point is what are the reasons for wanting to transition? Also, it states that he is an aviations operations specialist, if a cross benefit analysis was formed then what would be the weighted values of the two when skill sets were looked at in the civilian world? I was a prior 13f and was with the infantry for nearly a decade and loved every minute of it. If he simply wants to go to go I’m all for it. Serving is serving and if it’s what makes him happy then ok. Just wanted to understand the logic behind it. SFC Jason Muncy

SFC (Join to see) - If he already is an aviation operations specialist, no matter what he reclasses to he already has that skill set. If he remained in the same job, he would already have the same skill set. While going 11B may not help him in anyway, it will not lessen his qualifications either.

If it is even possible, you would risk facing RCP. If you've already asked Retention/Career Counselor...and if they said it's not possible....then there's your answer.
