Am I allowed to bring a full sized bible to Basic or do I have to bring just a small one that only contains new testament?

They are provided when you go to church services your first time. I wouldn't recommend bringing more than you need. It will be heavy.

They offer you a bible while at basic training. But they have to afford you religious freedom, so you should be good to take it!

PFC (Join to see): This is just my opinion, Private First Class Coleman: but, I don't see why you would be able to bring a Bible containing both the Old and the New Testaments.

When I went through Basic in 1960 a full Bible stayed on display in my footlocker right next to a can of Kiwi and shoe brush, razor, and shaving brush. Time was somewhat sparse to read it, but it was manageable. It was not an extra large version, but enough to follow the display guidelines.

SFC Greg Bruorton - Proud of you for reading the Bible, Greg, when you had time.

SPC Margaret Higgins - Thank you. I wasn't LDS at the time I went through Basic. If I were, the scriptures on display would comprise of four separate sets we follow: The Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price--a nice chunk.
